In this workshop you’ll use techniques developed by Celie to make a group of unique charms in PMC combined with other materials like wood, paper, beads, sterling, copper, brass, bronze, and found objects. These techniques; two-sided texturing, piercing, carving (both directly into PMC and also carving polymer to make texture plates), sculpting, whittling, appliqué leather-hard construction, how to combine unlike materials, creative friction-fit small-scale box closures, and basic metal-working.
First, you will learn how to design and assemble a unique chain using stamping, hammering, and patina techniques on sterling and brass rings and washers and infused with your own aesthetic sensibility.
Then, using metal clay (PMC OneFire Sterling) you’ll learn how to fashion a secure, textured and pierced toggle clasp, a multidimensional re-oriented geometric charm, cylindrical vessels, a textured cone, a variety of dangles on flame patina-ed copper, cap-settings for twigs and other found objects, and a miniature book with a pierced cover and a shepherd’s hook binding. You’ll also learn how to incorporate found objects and other materials like wood, paper, pencils, mica, and tin and transform them into wearable delights. If you would like, bring some tiny curiosities with you, you may be able to use them in the bracelet.
Celie’s instruction will be specific enough to guide you in making the charms pictured, but general enough to encourage you to express your individuality. You’ll develop skills for visualizing a design, mapping it out with paper, making simple templates, and organizing the work into manageable segments.
The techniques taught in this class will have wide application beyond this bracelet.
You can try to make all of the charms or lavish time on your favorite designs. This is a process and technique class and we’ll finish as much and as many as we can!
The class cost is $550.
The Material Fee is $135.
