Hollow Forms and Keum Boo

October 4 - 7 2019

4 Day class

This class is suitable for all levels of experience

Start by etching on polymer (Tear Away Technique*) to make your own unique texturing tools for metal clay.  Then, using construction techniques developed by Celie, make large, lightweight hollow forms (lentils, cubes, drum beads, and many variations on the triangle pendant) without the use of clumsy firing armatures and cores.

You'll also learn Keum-Boo, an ancient Asian metalworking technique for adding 24K gold to silver, the economical choice for adding the value of pure gold to your silver.  You'll learn to cut the gold foil with scissors, a craft knife, or paper punches, and how to burnish it on to the heated PMC.  Learn about sources for the gold, different thicknesses of foil, using and maintaining tools, and many other tips for mastering this ancient art.

We’ll be using PMC OneFire Sterling.  It has a longer open working time, greater strength, and it keum-boos beautifully!

The class cost is $550.

The Material Fee is  $115.

The material fee includes supplies and consumables, Argentium, sterling, fine silver, brass wire, copper wire and sheet, several packages of polymer clay for tear away textures, Teflon, copies (for tear away), Celie's demo materials (PMC, polymer, precious metals), finishing materials, including sand papers for PMC, studio rent, studio prep, administrative costs, and handouts.  Also included are many tools and supplies for you to use including a glass work surface, glass palettes, and a desk lamp.

PMC: I suggest you budget approximately 2-4 packs of PMC OneFire Sterling for this class but clay use is highly individual, you may use more, or less.

A list of local lodging choices will be sent upon registration.

A supply list will be sent in the beginning of August.

The class will be capped at 9 people.

TO REGISTER:  E-mail me first to make sure there is a spot in the class. (If you've already emailed me, your spot is secure.) Then send a check for $665 by July 1st.   After August 1st, this is non-refundable, unless a replacement can be found, in which case your refund would be the tuition minus a $50 registration fee.  Please e-mail me if you would like to split the tuition into two payments.
