October 2-5 2020

4 Day Class

This class is open to all levels of experience in both polymer and PMC.

Nowhere else in polymer clay work can you see the range of this versatile medium as clearly as in bracelet construction.  The brand of clay, the proportion of different brands if you mix clays, the thickness and the firing duration are all factors that relate to strength, durability, rigidity and flexibility; all issues routinely negotiated in the design of a polymer clay bracelet.

In this class you’ll make carved polymer clay bracelets adorned with PMC and polymer rings and dangles, both 2 and 3-dimensional.  You’ll also make bracelets constructed on brass forms; textured, inlayed and carved.

About the polymer clay techniques covered in the class:  Learn the basics of polymer conditioning, construction, curing, finishing, painting and carving and all about carving tools.

You’ll start by etching on polymer (tear away technique) to make your own unique texturing tools for metal clay. You’ll use these textures in class and also take them home with you.

About the PMC Techniques: You’ll use hollow form and 3-D construction techniques combined with principles of ring making (for sizing) to make bracelet adornments such as tube beads, cones, and other cylindrical forms, including carved rings and dangles.  You’ll explore variations on the lentil (inside out, pierced, etc.) and other leather hard constructions. Several approaches to making unique nametags, and various metalsmithing techniques (riveting, using Argentium Sterling, drawing balls on wire, etc.) will be demonstrated and discussed.

In addition, you’ll learn techniques for visualizing a design, in these two disparate but complimentary material; also about sizing with metal clay shrinkage in mind.

When you register I will send you our Local Lodging List which contains lodging, flying, and driving information.

The class cost is $550.

The Material Fee is $115.

The material fee includes supplies and consumables, several packages of polymer clay for making tear away textures, and a kit of polymer clay colors for constructing the bracelets, acrylic paints, sterling silver, Argentium, brass, copies (for tear-away), brass bracelet blanks, Celie's demo materials (PMC, polymer, metal), and finishing materials, including sand papers for PMC and polymer. Also included are many tools and supplies for you to use, glass pallets, a work surface, and handouts.

I suggest you budget 2-4 packs of PMC (28 gram packs of OneFire PMC) for this class, but you may budget less if you prefer.  Use is highly individual.

“Emergency” PMC OneFire will be available to purchase during the class. Additional polymer clay will be available to purchase, as well, but if you want to bring favorite colors of PREMO you are welcome.

A Supply List will be sent in July.

The class will be capped at 9 people.

TO REGISTER:  E-mail me first to make sure there is a spot in the class. (If you've already emailed me, your spot is secure.) Then send a check for $665 by June 1st.  This is non-refundable, unless a replacement can be found, in which case your refund would be the tuition minus a $50 registration fee.  Please e-mail me if you would like to split the tuition into two payments.
